A
First Time Waxing Experience
by Anonymous
All of my friends
are telling me that waxing is the only way to go when it comes to
removing the unsightly hair on my legs and bikini line. So I thought
that I would be brave and give it a shot.
I must admit
that I was really nervous the first time I walked through the doors
of my skin care salon, but I was greeted by my esthetician, Jeanne,
with a warm smile and a shake of her hand that had put me somewhat
at ease. She was dressed professionally and her treatment room was
clean and orderly. She told me to change out of my skirt and put
on a robe that was given to me so I would feel more comfortable.
Then she asked me to step up onto her table that resembled a massage
bed; I got to lay back, and I was thinking “If my friends
can do this, so can I - just breath and relax.”
Jeanne explained
to me everything that she was doing. I think that she sensed how
nervous I was, or maybe the dead give-a-way was the beads of sweat
on my legs. Once again I heard “just take some deep breaths”,
except this time it was Jeanne saying it.
She was telling
me that the first step to her waxing my legs and bikini area was
to cleanse the area, because hair holds a lot of bacteria, and we
don’t want to infect the warm wax pot. After she sprayed the
localized area with a disinfectant cleanser, she then sprinkled
some powder all over my legs and bikini line, “just to ensure
the area is completely dry so the wax will adhere to the skin”
she said. Then came the scary part: she took a stick, which looked
like a tongue depressor, and dipped it into the wax pot and applied
it on my legs moving it downwards in a straight line. She completely
covered my whole bottom leg with the warm wax, and she said that
she was going to start to pull now. She wanted me to take some long
deep breaths (to keep me calm, so I wont scream) and she pulled
off the first strip. Immediately after, she applied pressure with
her hand to the area, to help relieve the stinging sensation –
it lasted for a few seconds, and then went away. She continued on
and finished up both legs and moved onto the bikini area. The bikini
line is a little more sensitive than the legs. But I was a trooper.
The results
were heavenly, smooth, clean feeling skin. My skin was slightly
red looking; she explained it would be that way for a few hours.
Jeanne told me that I should use some kind of exfoliant, like a
body scrub or a loopha sponge, in the shower quite frequently to
keep from getting ingrown hair. And I shouldn’t take a hot
bath or go into a Jacuzzi tub for at lease 24hrs after waxing. She
said that the hair will start to grow back in a couple of weeks,
then four weeks from now, I should come in and have it done again.
If I keep up the process, the hair will eventually weaken, and slowly
disappear. The hair that does grow will be softer.
I was so excited
I had to sign up for the next appointment. I’ve been waxing
my legs and bikini line for several years now and she was absolutely
correct: my hair not only grew in softer and more sporadic, but
it grew back to the natural blonde color that I had when I was twelve,
before I shaved it and it grew in dark.
I know that
my testimony of my first waxing experience isn’t the same
for many of you, but if you’re considering it, keep in mind
that it is a long-term commitment, and not everyone will have the
same results I had. It is definitely worth trying. Give it a shot! |
